Melanie Walters was named Director of Education and Outreach in November 2008, after serving as the Development Coordinator and subsequently the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the past seven years. Her education experience in performance and dance has taken her to Omaha, Bellevue, Millard, Papillion, Westside, Ralston, Lewis Central, Council Bluffs, Gretna and Kearney Public Schools, among numerous other colleges and high schools throughout Nebraska and Iowa. Melanie also serves as an in-demand choreographer, clinician and adjudicator for countless middle and high school show choirs throughout Nebraska and Iowa, which she has done since 1999. Her work has also been seen in high school productions such as Seussical, Oklahoma!, The Wiz, Anything Goes, All Shook Up, Honk! and Once on This Island, to name a few. Melanie recently served as “Artist-in-Residence” for the Sharon North Jones Vocal Studio, where she also teaches the popular “Show Choir Prep” Dance Class – a six-week dance intensive which introduces students to an array of dance styles and techniques often seen in the show choir world.
As a performer, Melanie has appeared on numerous stages around the Omaha metro. Favorite roles include Eva Peron (Evita), Velma Kelly (Chicago), Lucy Harris (Jekyll and Hyde), Cassie (A Chorus Line), and The Narrator (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat). She has been nominated four times as Best Actress in a Musical by the Theatre Arts Guild, Best Actress in a Musical in 2007 and 2008 by the Omaha Entertainment Awards, and named Best Featured Dancer by the 2008 Omaha Entertainment Awards.
