OCP will be a creative home for everyone. We will use theater to break down barriers rather than to build them up. We will listen to those who have been systematically oppressed and excluded in order to better serve our community.
As a community-based theatre, it is critical that we also specifically recognize the racial inequities and injustices affecting our community and our theatre industry. We must take this time to truly listen and learn, reflect on our own role in this work, acknowledge that we can and must do better and take actionable steps to ensure we are truly representing and reflecting our full community — on our stages, in the audience and among our staff and board. Only then can we fully use the powerful platform of theatre to help promote equity and change.
DEIA Strategic Plan
In June of 2021, the Omaha Community Playhouse established a written Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility (DEIA) Strategic Plan. This plan was created as a guide to ensure that OCP honors its commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive environment for all. OCP is committed to providing annual updates on our work and progress.
Strategic Plan Goals
Increase diversity on the OCP staff and board and provide ongoing mandatory DEIA training.
Increase inclusion and accessibility for underrepresented populations and increase diverse representation in programming, operations, backstage and front of house.
Create an inclusive, accessible, anti-racist and safe environment.
Create transparency and accountability and encourage community feedback.
Create equitable theater education opportunities and use theater education to promote anti-racism and inclusion.
OCP invites members of the Omaha community and OCP stakeholders at all levels to connect with us for discussion, ideas and concerns related to our DEIA work. We welcome any feedback that may help us gain a better understanding of the needs of our community, including both positive and negative experiences at all levels of our organization.
