In Encore!, senior adults will learn the ins and outs of acting, playwriting, directing, and improv. With a host of life experiences, students in this class will have the opportunity to share their own stories and write original monologues which they’ll perform. There will be a final showcase the evening of our last session; family & friends are invited to attend.

MONDAYS | 6:30 – 7:30PM | JANUARY 22 – MARCH 11
In Play Analysis, students will read a new play each week to discuss during their class time. Much like a book club for theatre lovers, this class will not include acting, but it will include discussion, debate, and reflection facilitated by a teaching artist. Stay tuned for this session’s theme!
All plays and materials will be provided in class.

TUESDAYS | 5:30 – 6:30PM | JANUARY 23 – MARCH 12
Intro to Acting is a class designed for adults at the start of their acting journey or actors who want to revisit the art. Through scene study, improv, and various acting exercises, actors will be immersed in character study & creation. This class is a safe space to try something new!

TUESDAYS | 6:30 – 7:30PM | JANUARY 23 – MARCH 12
Through scene study, adult actors will learn how to approach a scene, how to discover the shape of a scene, and how to find the story within. This class will help actors create an honest and dynamic performance through the dissection of scenes from multiple scripts. This table work class will include discussion and performance.

WEDNESDAYS | 5:30 – 6:30PM | JANUARY 24 – MARCH 13
Dance Styles is open to beginner adults ready to explore the world of dance! Students will be introduced to multiple dance styles like ballet, jazz, musical theatre, and tap. This class is a safe space to learn and move.

Actors 19 and up will expand their knowledge of improv and hone their skills under the guidance of an instructor. All experience levels are welcome as the class will begin with the introductory elements of the craft.

In this introductory class, students will learn foundational elements of music theory. Students will study how to read music & introductory keyboard. Taught by OCP’s own resident music director, this class is sure to be a good time & perfect for those starting in their music journey!
Get ready for our Season 99 auditions with this free workshop! Students will learn how to select material, prepare the material, and showcase their best self in the audition room. Participants can bring pre-selected material to the workshop. All participants will have the opportunity to rehearse their pieces for the group.

FAQ
What time should I arrive?
Adult students can arrive up to ten minutes before their class begins. They should enter through the stage door behind the building. The Director of Education will be there to let you in.
What if a student needs to miss a class?
Please let us know in advance if a you will miss any classes so the teacher can adjust their lesson plan accordingly. Refunds cannot be made for missed classes.
May others sit in and watch the class?
Adult classes are closed to the public.
Will there be a performance at the end of classes?
All class descriptions contain information about final presentations. Some classes have a sharing day on the last day of class for family and friends that may wish to observe. Not every class will present a play or other performance on sharing day. If a performance is planned for sharing day, it is intended to be very informal and almost always done without lights, sets, props or costumes.
What is the Kids Connect option?
KidzConnect is a space for creation & connection. KidzConnect is open to children ages 5+ of adult students enrolled in any HFTA class. While guardians are taking class, their children are engaged in crafts, games, & activities built just for them & under the direction of HFTA teaching artists. KidzConnect must be purchased at the time of enrollment. This KidzConnect session will take place during the adult's registered class time.
POLICIES
Refunds
Any requests for changes or refunds must be made in writing at least one week prior to your first class or camp. A full refund will be issued minus a $5 processing fee. No refunds after this point, only credit toward tuition of a future class, camp or workshop within a year of the cancellation. No exceptions for injury or illness.
Cancellation of Class
If your class or workshop is canceled, you will have the choice of a full refund (no processing fee charge) or a credit toward a future class or workshop.
Behavior: In order to ensure students derive maximum benefit and enjoyment from the classroom experience, students who become disruptive or disrespectful will be removed from class with no refund of tuition.
Photo & Video Release
Omaha Community Playhouse often takes photographs and video during events for use in brochures and the web. By registering you agree that OCP may use any image of you or your child that might appear in photographs or video taken at OCP.
