The magic of storytelling for our elementary aged theatre lovers!

Our classes invite young performers to discover the magic of storytelling through play, movement, and creativity in a warm, inclusive space built on kindness and curiosity. Through theatre games, ensemble projects, and imaginative story-making, students develop confidence, teamwork, empathy, and self-expression—celebrating big ideas, silly moments, and the joy of trying something new. It’s not about getting it “right,” but about having fun, collaborating, and learning that at SHFTA, every student belongs and every story matters.

Workshops

PETITE PERFORMERS
AGES 5 – 8 | GRADES K – 2 | COST: $150
SATURDAYS | 9 – 10 a.m. | SEPT. 19 – NOV. 7

Get ready for some musical theatre! Students will study acting, singing, and dancing through some beloved musical theatre pieces. They will build their skills and present their work at the final showcase. Come sing and dance with us!

 

CREATE A PLAY
AGES 8 – 10 | GRADES 3 – 5 | COST: $150
SATURDAYS | 9 – 10 a.m. | SEPT. 19 – NOV. 7

Create a Play is perfect for any student who loves using their creativity! Under the direction of our teaching artists, students will write a play, focusing on storytelling, collaboration, & writing skills. Over the course of ten weeks, the playwrights will become actors and prepare to perform the world-premiere of their play for family and friends on the last day of class.

 

BEHIND THE SCENES
AGES 8 – 10 | GRADES 3 – 5 | COST: $150
SATURDAYS | 10 – 11 a.m. | SEPT. 19 – NOV. 7

In this eight-week class, students will work to design costumes, sets, makeup, and a show poster for a classic story with a twist. Before jumping into their own creations, students will visit OCP’s costume shop, scene shop, and both of our performance spaces to learn about how productions come to life. This class is perfect for the creative student in your life! Family & friends are invited for a special presentation of their creations during the last class of the session.

Refunds

If you would like to cancel your registration, please reach out to the Education Coordinator. A full refund will be issued, minus a $5 cancellation fee for cancellations made one week prior to the program’s first day. No refunds after this point, only credit toward tuition of a future class, camp or workshop within a year of the cancellation, minus a $5 cancellation fee. No exceptions for injury or illness.

Cancellation of Class

If your class or workshop is canceled, you will have the choice of a full refund (no processing fee charge) or a credit toward a future class or workshop. Behavior: In order to ensure students derive maximum benefit and enjoyment from the classroom experience, students who become disruptive or disrespectful will be removed from class with no refund of tuition.

Photo & Video Release

Omaha Community Playhouse often takes photographs and video during events for use in brochures and the web. By registering you agree that OCP may use any image of you or your child that might appear in photographs or video taken at OCP.

FAQ

What time should I arrive?

Students may arrive up to ten minutes early for their class.

What if a student needs to miss a class?

That's okay! We know "life" happens. Please note, refunds cannot be made for missed classes.

May parents sit in and watch the class?

In order to help students let go of their inhibitions and develop a strong stage presence, we ask parents not to stay and watch their child in class, as it is often disruptive to the students.

What time should I pick up my child?

Classes are one-hour and your student's class end time will be listed in your confirmation email. A late penalty of $25 per each extra 10 minutes after the class end time will be imposed.

Will there be a performance at the end of classes?

Each individual class description will have information about performances, if applicable. Some classes perform at the Final Showcase, others have an informal final class performance, and others do not have a performance at all. If a performance is planned, it is intended to be very informal and almost always done without lights, sets, props or costumes.
